Today is the 20th annual Bring Your Dog to Work Day! An initiative where staff are encouraged to bring their pets into the workplace. The day is to raise money for All Dogs Matter, a charity that rescues and rehomes dogs in the UK.
So why would you want your employees to bring dogs into the office?
The main argument for this idea is that bringing dogs into the workplace can significantly improve team morale. There’s also scientific research which says being around dogs is good for your health.
Research from Harvard Medical School has shown that stroking dogs can help relieve stress, lower blood pressure, aid recovery from heart disease, improve psychological well-being and boost self-esteem.
Dogs are an important part of some people’s lives. Some employees even request peternity leave to the rear and become acquainted with pets while they are young.
Many argue that Bring Your Dog to Work Day is a distraction to employees and an obvious health and safety risk, especially if you work in an industry such as catering.
Would your workplace benefit from the presence of a colleague’s pet?
